October 31st is upon us once again. Should spirit filled Christian believers have any thing to do with this particular holiday.
I really don't think so. 1 Thessalonians 5:22 tells us to abstain from all appearance of evil.
Does Halloween have the appearance of evil. Houses are decorated with all sorts of demonic stuff that celebrates death and violence.
This kind of behaviour gives Satan a foothold in your life. 1 Corinthians 10:21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.
Halloween is a pagan ritual. It originated from an ancient celebration called Samhain. It is to celebrate the beginning of winter, as well as the first day of the new year. It was thought to be a time when humans collide with the supernatural. The souls of the dead visited their relatives, and other inhabitants of the earth. They would dress up and wear masks. This was done so spirits of the dead would not recognize them.
Animals crops and sometimes Human beings were sacrificed in order the please supernatural deity's. Sorcery and witchcraft were commonplace at Samhein Jack- O- lanterns were used to frighten away evil spirits.
These practises are ungodly and goes against what God has said in his word.
The devil is subtle he makes it all look like harmless fun. If we think back to the garden of Eden, not much has changed. Satan is a master at deceiving. 2 Corinthians 11:14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into and angel of light. The Devil is real, and he is an enemy of God and those who have excepted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.
The spiritual world is very real. There is a battle going on. Ephesians 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts in heavenly places.
It is also the only time when parents actually encourage their children to approach and take candy from complete strangers. This is confusing for children, and putting them at risk. It also gives them a mixed message.
To wrap this up, if we are serious about our walk with God we will avoid anything that does line up with his will for us and our families.
God loves us and wants the best for us. His word is there to protect us and guide us. When he says not to do something it is not because he is a party pooper, it is because he knows it could bring harm to us.
As Christians we need to make a stand against this darkness. We are called to be children of the light.
It is time for you to decide who's side you are on.
JOSHUA 24:15 AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE WE WILL SERVE THE LORD
