Can you lose your Salvation ?

I have chosen this topic because this is something that troubles a lot of Christians. Can you really lose your salvation or actually give it back ? To examine this question we need to go to the word of God. The Book of Numbers 23:19 tells us that God is not a man that he should lie. We also know we can completely trust him. 2 Samuel 7:28 Sovereign Lord, you are God! Your covenant is trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant.

Let me first say that a Christian is not someone who has walked down the isle and said a prayer. I believe there is much more to it than that. Even if you were raised in a Christian home, it does not mean you are automatically saved. Not that these things are not good experiences. These things certainly help in planting the seeds of salvation. The word tells us not to despise small beginnings.

When we truly receive salvation, and are born again, something supernatural happens, we become a new creation. 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, old things have passed away, behold, all things have become new. From this scripture we can see that when you receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and saviour you become a new creation. God no longer sees the old you, he sees you as brand new creature. This is where we have a problem with losing your salvation. It means that God would have to destroy that new creation. 1 Peter 1:18-19 Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and spot.

Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ
Justified by faith means we are made right righteous . God cannot take back his word, once he has declared it, he cannot un-declare it. He has guaranteed it for all eternity. John 3:16 says For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotton son, that whoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Eternal life is a promise from God. he has promised the believer that they will live forever. You cannot lose eternal life the same way that you can lose your car keys or credit card, it is simply not possible.

We are sealed by the sprit of God and guaranteed to reach our destination.

But you may say, what about free will and making our own choices. Has not given us the ability to decide things for ourselves. The bottom line is Yes, the Bible says when we become believers we still have our own spiritual choices to make. But God has promised to keep us through it all, as long as we continue to trust him. We do need to constantly worry. God has made you his child. You can never cease to be his child.

However this does not give you permission to sin. If you continue to disobey God's word you will be punished. Hebrews 12:6-11 For whom the Lord loves he chastens, And scourges every son whom he receives. God will deal with us as a father deals with a child. Just as our human father corrects us, so does our Heavenly father.
If we continue to live sinful lives, it may mean we haven't given our hearts to Jesus at all. We could even be deceived into thinking we are saved when we really aren't. James 2:26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead

The conclusion is that those who have true salvation can never lose it. When we come to Christ, his spirit comes to live and dwell in us. We are adopted into the family of God. John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.
Make sure of your commitment to Jesus Christ as both your Lord and Saviour, and ask him to help you to live a life that brings glory to him.
