Does God exist and is there any
evidence to prove his existence. Some say we cannot see God,
therefore there is no point in wasting time wondering about it.
However just because you can't see something physically with your own eyes, it doesn't mean it is not there. For example you cannot see
air, or electricity, but you know its there because you can feel it. So even though
we cannot see God we can feel his presence. Then there is the
question of Creation by a divine being or evolution. I myself believe
it takes a lot more faith to except that we came from monkeys.
Creation by God makes a lot more sense. Plus the fact that there is
so little or no evidence for evolution. Also as one theologist
wrote, It must be significant that nearly all the evolutionary
stories I learned as [a] student…have been debunked” (The
Nature of the Fossil Record, Proceedings of the Geological
Association). The word of God says in Romans 1:20 For the
invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly
seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal
Godhead and power, so that they are without excuse.
That is a very powerful verse, and we
would be very short sighted to dismiss it off hand. When you see a
beautiful sunset, or hear the cry of a new-born baby. The changing of
the seasons and beautiful landscapes all given by God for our benefit
and pleasure, it fills you with a sense of wonder and awe.
Some people base the reason for God's
existence on reason alone. They say we can know God exists the same
as we know 2+2 = 4 This is called the ontological argument.
Apparently we do not need to search for proof of God's existence. We
know he is real just by thinking about him. The ontological argument
state's just as we know what a triangle is, makes it obvious that a
four sided triangle is impossible. Therefore we know that God's non
existence is impossible.
I am more than happy to except that theory. I just want to give you an idea
of some of the debates that philosophers engage in.
There are many other such theories like
the cosmological and the teleological argument. Again I suggest if
you want to look at these, you do your own study. I for one have a personal testimony of his existence. He has always been there for me.
Another fact that we need to consider
is if God does not exist your life is inconsequential. It means that
all life is doomed to end in death. How you live or behave, does not
matter. Yes you may have some adverse effect on others during the
course of your time on earth, but ultimately it makes no difference
what you do. The outcome is eternal oblivion.
On the other hand if God exists, it
makes not only a tremendous difference for mankind in general, but it
could make a life-changing difference for you as well. Your eternal destiny could be at stake.
As a child it is difficult to be told
that someday you will die. Even though we know it is a long way off,
it is still quite hard to get to grips with. We eventually except our
ultimate fate, but there is nothing natural about it. No one wants to
die. The Bible says that God has put eternity in our hearts.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 He has made
everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the
human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning
to end. No wonder death is
unnatural to us. God has placed eternity in our hearts.
If
God exists then who is Jesus. God did not leave us without
instruction. He gave us a manual to read and study. The bible tells
us how to get the most out of this life, and the next. Jesus Christ
was God in the flesh. John 3:16 says For God so loved the world that
he gave his only begotten son, so that those who believe in him will
have everlasting life. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus
Christ we have a clear hope for the the future. The Bible
says that it is appointed unto every man, once to die Hebrews 9:27.
God came to earth
in a temporary capacity. His goal was to redeem mankind. Because of
the sin in the garden of Eden, God had to break that curse by
sacrificing himself for the human race.
The Bible also
states that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.
Romans 3:23
Each and everyone
of us needs a saviour. Because sin is a force that separates us from
God. He did this by becoming the lamb that takes away the sin of the
world John 1:29
So the good news
of the Gospel of Jesus Christ’s death is that we have now been
reconciled back into a right relationship with God. Jesus paid the ultimate price for our sin. Hebrews 4:16 says Let us therefore come boldly before the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Awesome.
I think whether or
not God exists is something every individual should consider. After
all it could have eternal consequences. Because there is a lot at
stake.
I will be covering
more on this subject very soon
